A central bright dust bar or spine about 60' long runs tailward from the center of coma. Pseudonucleus not seen.

Outer coma just visible 40' across, inner coma still of fairly high surface brightness, 20' across. In 11x70B the inner coma is 20', leading edge appears circular or very flat parabolic, while the following edge is very diffuse. Central condensation clearly visible, followed by a very elongated dust cloud about 8' long in P.A. 200 deg. Outer coma 40' across, but difficult to see. Tail appears as a detached cloud from 0.7 to 1.4 deg behind the comet in P.A. 200 deg.

Outer coma large, diffuse and distinctly green, 50' across. Trailing edge appears ragged.

Gegenschein and zodiacal band obvious. Inner coma diameter 14' as seen with the naked eye. In 11x70B the large outer coma is distinctly greenish in color and clearly assymetric, measuring 55' in E-W direction (offset towards W) and 40' in N-S direction. Three gas streamers seen in P.A. 290 deg to 40', P.A. 205 deg to 50' and P.A. 180 deg to 35'. Bright inner coma becoming assymetric, with the NE border circular and sharply defined and SW border becoming diffuse and fanning out, 13' in diameter. Bright dust cloud about 3' long, offset in P.A. 210 deg.

Bright V-shaped region in the SW part of the coma (PA 210 deg), slightly off-center; band of lower brightness suspected in the opposite direction. Zenithal LM was 6.6.

17P        2007 10 26.83  I  2.3 TK  0.7E     1      2 9  -       -        ATA   Atanackov Jure, Plavje; Clear skies with scattered clouds, full Moon, slight haze. Comet is obvious with the naked eye as an almost stellar object with a detectable disk and a soft outer edge, obviously yellow. In 11x70B a very bright, perfectly circular coma 3.2' across, brightest portion displaced towards P.A. 200 deg. Half of the coma, centered on this P.A. brighter than the following part. Outer parts of coma cream yellow in color, central condensation more intense yellow color. In 15-cm R at 30x (Oct.26.87UT) the sight is absolutely amazing. The pale cream coma is perfectly round, annular in apperance with a brighter, soft edge. A wide, distinctly yellow dust fan is centered on P.A. 200 deg, spanning 60 deg and 45%22 long, superimposed on an oval dust envelope about 70%22 long. Glimpses of possible(clockwise) spiral structure inside the fan forming a dust shell, but not confirmed. Opposite the dist fan a 'void' of lesser surface brightness is located between the pseudonucleus and bright outer coma edge. Stellar pseudonucleus (m2=9.1) visible at 30x and very distinct at 150x.

Comet stellar object, obvious to the naked eye. Through 7x50B it looked like a bright yellow disc about 2' in diameter.

For a few minutes the clouds around the comet thined and the LM through 10x40B was around 6. 17P was strongly condensed although it looked a bit different than surrounding stars. Brightness compared to alpha and delta Persei.
17P        2007 10 24.86  I  2.6 YG  0.0E     1      0 9                   KAC   Kac Javor, Ljubljana; Short-lasting clearing around the comet, with good transparency. To the naked eye, comet is a yellowish stellar object. Through 7x50B the comet is bright yellow and almost stellar object.
17P        2007 10 24.85  S  2.6 TK  0.7E     1      - 9  -       -        ATA   Atanackov Jure, Ljubljana; Full moon and scattered clouds, but very good transparency. Obvious with the naked eye. Noticeably brighter than delta Persei with NE. In 11x70 the comet has strong yellow color, compared to the pale yellow alpha Persei and bluegreen delta Persei. Coma not completely stellar, but a very small disk (<15%22 in diameter).

In 25x100B coma 7' across, flat brightness profile, no central condensation seen. Nearby galaxies NGC 3166 (10.6m) and NGC 3169 (11.5m) in the same FOV an much easier than the comet (in 25x100B). Rapid motion noted in several minutes. Bortle class 3 sky, NELM6.5 in the area of comet.

Each synchrone visible as a ~10-15 deg long band of light, in P.A. from 45 to 5 degrees. Entire span of the observed tail ~25 deg. The most distant synchrone reaches almost up to Enif. Surface brightness similar to Milky way. NELM~6.6.

Obvious naked eye object 32 minutes before sunset at 5.7 deg elongation, with a very bright 0.6 deg tail. Comet easier with the naked eye than Venus, which was at 18.9 deg elongation. Very bright and extremely condensed yellow-white coma ~1.5' across in 11x70B. After sunset a prominent naked-eye object. 1.5 deg tail in 11x70B, slightly curved 'hook' apperance. In 15-cm R at 30x two bright streamers, separated by the shadow of the nculeus form a parabolic arc. Comparison objects for magnitude estimates were Venus and Vega. Good conditions, some slight haze close to the horizon, winter coefficients.

Comparison object was Venus (3m9). Winter coefficients used.

   2006P1  2007 01 12.67  I!-4.1: -  0.0E     1      - 9                   CAD   Cadez Tilen, Kamnik; Comet first noticed at 15:30 UT (7.7 deg, Sun +15'). In 10x40B comet was white, fainter than Venus, with broad tail 0,5 deg long. I estimated comet's brightness only in comparison to Venus (multiple times, at different altitudes, for Venus I used brightness from TheSky: -3.9 mag), so this estimate is uncertain. First estimate was made at 15:38 UT (comet's altitude 6.5 deg, Sun -0.9 deg) and last at 16:02 UT (2.8 deg, Sun -4.5 deg). Corrected for atmospheric extinction, winter tables used.

   2006P1  2007 01 12.66  I!-3.6 TK  0.7E     1     <2 9  1.5    45        ATA   Atanackov Jure, Nanos; Comet first sighted with the naked eye at 15:24UT, 9 degrees elevation and 15 minutes *before* sunset as a plainly visible bright white point object with a 0.5 deg tail pointing straight upwards. Through 11x70B a brilliant white nucleus was seen, with a parabolic coma and 0.8 deg tail against a bright blue sky. As the Sun descended in the west, the comet became progressively more prominent. After sunset the comet was a bright and obvious naked eye object, not much fainter than Venus. Best view at 16:02UT with the comet at +3.5 deg and the Sun at -4.0 deg. With the naked eye the comet was a prominent, brilliant yellow-white object with a 1.5 degree tail. In 11x70B, the nucleus looked like a blazing white piece of burning magnesium, trailing an impressive parabolic coma and a long, westwards gently curving dust tail 3.6 deg long. Followed to within 5' of horizon. Very good conditions, mountain location, 1250m a.s.l. Winter extinction coefficients used.

Estimate made with the comet at +2.9 deg, Sun at -6.0 deg. With the naked eye the nucleus is brilliant yellow, essentially stellar, trailing a long and bright 3.0 deg tail. In 11x70B, the parabolic coma is ~1.5' across. Pseudonucleus blazing yellow-white, like a piece of burning magnesium. Bifurcated tail of high surface brightness, with the shadow of nucleus splitting it in two bright streamers, with the eastern brighter and longer. Tail length 3.4 degrees in 11x70B, gently curving towards west. Very good conditions, winter extinction coefficients used. Mountain location, 970m a.s.l.

Estimates made with the comet at +4.1 to +2.7 deg, Sun at -5.8 to -7.2 deg. Bright yellow, almost stellar nucleus with a bright 1.2 deg tail seen with the naked eye. In 7x50B, coma diameter is 2'. Average observing conditions, winter extinction coefficients used.

Comet first noted as a prominent object at 5h51m UT, rising from behind a distant cloud at 2.5 deg. Very condensed yellow pseudonucleus, surrounded by a faint coma, tail 12' long. Comet followed until 6h16m UT, then disappeared behind cloud. Unable to recover it ten minutes later. Sunrise at 6h45m.

Comet situated in the zodiacal light, so the faintest parts of the tail and the coma may have been drowned out by the bright background. Extreme Bobrovnikoff method, as suggested by John Bortle.
